Located in the quiet Ghetto area. The glassed-in entrance is under the portico.
It's always full of customers.
Front of the shop. See from the outside part. The wooden interior is a little
bit dark even during the daytime, but it creates a very comfortable atmosphere.
Inside there is another hall. You can see some remains of the ghetto, like Hebrew
characters through windows. Wooden benches were used in a church in 1800s.
Sardine marinated in sweet vinaigrette sauce "Sarde in Saor". A typical
Venetian cuisine.
Risotto with levers. It seems soup rather than normal risotto.
Zuppa (soup) of kidney beans is served as Primo piatto instead of pasta. Fresh
Radicchio is accompanied on and its bitter taste is wonderful.
Lasagna of Radicchio and Taleggio cheese. The successful combination of Radicchio
and Taleggio.
A menu of mid-April. White asparagus omelet. Most of the customers on this day
chose this dish for second order.
Starter of marinated sardines. Sardine soaked in salt, vinegar and oil. Freshness
of the fish is important. Please take a glass of wine.
He is the owner. 20 years have passed since he'd opened this restaurant.

Generally restaurants in Padua have a reasonable price. Osteria dei Fabbri is also one of them. There is no grand atmosphere and you can feel relaxed to find something delicious. Their menu consists Venetian and Paduan cuisine. Italians have their own favorite restaurant, and also here is visited by many regular customers. It's located close to the Piazza delle Erbe, a few steps into the ghetto area. It's popular among local families, students, businessmen, old couples, etc.. One of the locals' favorite places to eat.
Since it's located near the Piazza delle Erbe, where daily market is held everyday except Sunday, the owner himself goes to purchase seasonal vegetables and fruits there. Therefore the menu will vary day by day, depends on his acquisition. Indeed a daily menu is a piece of copied paper with the date. In addition to the regular menu, depends on morning shopping, it's hand-written some fresh dishes. Seasonal vegetables and fruits have an energy and you can enjoy their natural tastes.
Typical local dishes are called Piatto Tipico. This restaurant prepares traditional dishes of Venetian region (Padua, Venice, Treviso and Vicenza). Please try a local pasta, Bigori (thick long pasta) with typical sauce of anchovy or ragout of duck. Pasta e Fagioli (pasta with kidney beans) is diffused all over Italy but their dish is of course a Venetian style. Strained beans are put with wide irregular pasta. Simple but delicious, it's a precise taste of Osteria.
Veneto is also the rice-producing area. It's said that local families eat frequently rice rather than pasta. Talking about dishes of rice in Padua, there is a traditional risotto, Risi e Fegatini (internal organs). Padua is also famous for delicious chickens called "Padovana Gallina" so historically internal organs had been used for risotto like this dish. Moreover, in spring also Risi e Bisi (risotto with Peas) is put in standard menu. Funghi porcini in autumn and Radicchio di Treviso in winter... "Risi" is a dialect of the Veneto that means "risotto", anyway. Typical Venetian risotto has a feature like soup. In this restaurant you can enjoy these kinds of risotto.
For the Secondo Piatto or main dish, you can order meat or fish dishes served with polenta (boiled corn flour). Venetian polenta (corn flour) is often ate together instead of bread. There are two types of polenta depending on restaurants: soft paste type and grilled crunch type. In this restaurant it seems that soft one is often served. Personally, I prefer softer polenta.
