Capri Island

About the island of Capri

40 minutes by hydrofoil from Naples

The island of Capri is situated in the southern part of Naples Gulf (from Beverello and Mergellina about 40 minutes by hydrofoil, 30 km distance). It's been famous as a great resort since the ancient times.

You can get to Capri by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Sorrento, and from Ischia and arrive at the town's only commercial port "Marina Grande".
Scenic island is also famous for its production of lemon, lemon liquor "Limoncello", sweets and chocolate of lemon. Also lemon soap and perfume are local specialties.

Capri and Anacapri

On the island of outer 17 km, there are two towns; Capri and Anacapri. Funicular from Marina Grande, in front of the ferry landing place, connects the port and the town of Capri.

By using a bus or taxi from the town of Capri, you can get to the town of Anacapri, located on the west side of the island. In Anacapri there is one long lift more than a kilometer which bring you on the top of the Mount Solaro, the highest peak of the island (Monte Solaro, 589m).

Capri and Anacapri have a plenty of small souvenir shops and boutique.
Just look and fun, you can enjoy perfect shopping. It's really safe town but around the port there are some runners of taxi and restaurant, so please be careful.

Grotta Azzura

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzura)

The most famous place of the island of Capri is "Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra)". In the northwest of the island, this world-famous sea cave has sunk under the sea because of land subsidence. Usually tourists can go nearby cave by a motorboat, from which one goes on a small rowboat and enter into the cave. Entrance is very narrow (1m high), you need to bend your back in order to go inside.

The inside is about 50 meters high and 15 meters length. The light shines through the fantastic blue sea!

On the day of the bad weather, especially in winter, it's very difficult to get a chance to enter inside of the cave. Just depends on your luck!
