Via dell'Indipendenza, a big straight street from the Central Station toward
the Piazza Maggiore is the city's main street. There are lined many shops selling
all kinds of products. The target of these shops on this street would be young
people. St. Peter's Church of massive decoration is situated on this street (Metropolitana
di S. Pietro). The church was completed in the 17th century as a seat for bishop
of Bologna.
As both sides of the Cathedral of St. Petronio in Piazza Maggiore (Via d'Azeglio and Via dell'Archiginnasio) are filled with famous brand shops. Especially the shoemaker's showcases have very nice shoes!! After all, what amazing the Italian fashion sense is! Street behind the cathedral Farini (Via Farini) also has a headquarter of Bologna's boutique brand, Furla. There are three other department stores in Bologna, but the largest one is here.

Next to the Piazza Maggiore market it's crowded with people buying fresh vegetables
and fish at any time. They have really fresh materials so it's one of my favorite
markets to go shopping.
The surrounding streets' names are derived from stores, which were there in the old days. For example, the Clavature Street means a key of a blacksmith, and the Drapperie means carpet.
There is a traditional grocery store Tamburini on the corner of the Via Drapperie and Via Caprarie. It has been in business for over 70 years.

The square of August 8 (Piazza VIII Agosto) was used as a livestock market for
trade from 13th century. Still now a big market is opened every Friday and Saturday.
Clothing, shoes, kitchenware, household items are sold widely. It's also need
to have good eyes to value affordable prices. Be careful of pickpockets in crowded
areas.
A market of the square of August 8 (La Piazzola)
[How to reach] From Piazza Maggiore go down the Via dell'Indipendenza 15 min
by walk.

Go to the right side about 100m seeing Furla in front of you, you can find a chocolate shop Maiani. It was established in 1796. Their original bland "Fiat" chocolate is my favorite. It was born for the request by the famous Italian carmaker Fiat as promotion goods. Layered with chocolate cream and cocoa nuts have a savory taste. Please buy a box for your gifts.
