Each price from table charge, wine to dessert is very economy so you can enjoy a satisfying lunch in two at around 25 euros. Orvieto is famous for many great restaurants, and especially for lunch I strongly recommend this trattoria, "Mezza Luna". Since it's located a little bit outside from the center (however it takes about 10 minutes only by walk), there are fewer tourists so you can be relaxed and enjoy their good taste.
The restaurant is relatively new, opened around 2000. Gradually locals started to gather and now it's one of the most popular restaurants in Orvieto. For lunch it becomes filled with locals soon so it's better to book in advance or go before their opening time (12:30). Otherwise, you can try to go around 14 o'clock, when the first customers finish eating. Those local usual customers come here almost every week and eat rapidly.
Their most popular dish is absolutely "Carbonara (Spaghetti al carbonara)". Superbly boiled spaghetti al dente, thick-cut pancetta (Italian bacon) and plenty Parmesan cheese melt in your mouth. If you look around, most people order this carbonara. Yes, most people coming to this trattoria are aiming to eat this spaghetti.
If you are afraid of too much quantity of their dishes, it's recommended to order different dishes to share together. This restaurant makes no problem about order because it's a free-style dining room.
If you have a capacient stomach, their meat is also highly recommended. Among local customers, there are those who order both of carbonara and steak (Bistecca di manzo) even if at lunch. Here you can enjoy the best steak at less than 10 euros. I think it's really rare all over Italy. Charcoal-grilled beef steak has a juicy and mellow flavor. Please eat with lemon juice.
It's possible to affirm that this Mezza Luna is the best economy restaurants in Orvieto. The popular Carbonara costs 7 euros. As you can see that local people come frequently, also table charge rate and wine prices are very cheap.
When I went to lunch with two friends, we ordered wine, carbonara, steak, dessert, and 3 cups of coffee. We payed totally 23.50 euros only, including table charges. We regretted that we should had ordered more!!!

I recommend this" Mezza Luna" as well as "La Palomba" in Orvieto. The restaurant's feature is more than anything else cheap price! It's wonderful dining for both of your stomach and wallet!!
